Professional Singing 101

Instructor: Carmen Woodruff

Not only will this new course cover warm-up, performance, and vocal technique, but we will also discuss the business aspect of being a vocalist in a changing music industry. How can you make yourself a more marketable singer and get great gigs? We will cover all of this and more in Professional Singing 101 with DIME Detroit vocals instructor, Carmen Woodruff. Carmen holds a Master of Music in Contemporary Vocal Performance from Berklee College of Music. Her experience spans more than two decades and has led her to South Africa, Germany, China, the Netherlands, Belgium and most recently Spain, where shes played a part in festivals, clinics, corporate events and productions.

Money Management for Musicians

Instructor: Stephanie Belcher

The music business is unlike any other industry. Creating art, then touring around the world with it, requires a unique vision for financial management. When a musician, tour manager, or sound engineer is in a different city every night, getting paid by different people, using different forms (cash, check, venmo, bitcoin... where does it end?) keeping track of everything can be tough. At the end of the day (well, year), the IRS wants to know - with precise accuracy - how much of that money came in, and went back out. How can you manage it all? Stephanie Belcher, business manager and Music Industry Studies instructor, will give tips on how to keep solid records, and recommend apps and software that might make the whole thing a little less stressful. With more than 20 years of music industry experience - 11 of those in tax and bookkeeping - Stephanie has been hands-on with almost every aspect of the business, and can guide you toward a more peaceful financial life on the road.

Home Recording Techniques

Instructor: Drew Schultz

Now more than ever, it's possible to create great sounding recordings right from your home studio with gear that won't break the bank. This course will explore the basics of home recording, and challenge students to record, mix, and master a demo recording within the 6-week class. Drew Schultz is legend here at DIME Detroit: he's a drummer, songwriter, producer and recording engineer that has worked with some of the best in the business including The Temptations, The Four Tops, Aretha Franklin, ?uestlove and many more. All equipment is provided for this course, but enrollment is limited to 8 students, so sign up today!
